OverCoffeeMedia shifts focus to media strategies

When OverCoffeeMedia started chronicling the media transitions now under way, it sometimes felt pretty lonely. Few people — and almost no media — were taking seriously the changes that would create the crisis we are now seeing. Traditional media throughout the United States are in bankruptcy. Many will emerge and continue to broadcast or publish, but things will never be the same.

At the same time, the media have become obsessed with themselves. Today’s Birmingham News has no fewer than four stories about media — two about Twitter, one about Facebook, and one about CNN’s new iPhone app, for which it is charging a modest fee.

So now everybody sees the problem, and it’s time to start asking the question, “Now what?”

That’s the new focus of OverCoffeeMedia.com. We’ll keep an eye on the media changes, but rather than simply keeping tabs on them, we’ll talk more about how those of us who communicate for a living — reporters, bloggers, PR professionals, advertisers, politicians and others — can adapt and do a better job of reaching key audiences for themselves, their companies and their clients.
